Producing Coffee and Forest Honey
Products in harmony with nature.

Climate-resilient forest products
The cultivation of coffee and the production of forest honey create additional jobs. In order to preserve the natural diversity in the forests, we have deliberately limited the number of coffee bushes to a maximum of 1.5 % of the total plants. Through the non-profit sale of these forest products, the restored forests finance themselves after 7 years.

Forest honey from Madagascar honey bees
With the project Tantely, Malagasy for «honey», we began introducing Madagascar bees, a subspecies of honey bees native to Madagascar, to Fihaonana in 2022. Our apiary now comprises eight bee colonies. Although this is still a manageable number, we initially had to cultivate bee-friendly plants ourselves due to the destruction of nature in the surrounding area. This gave rise to the idea of planting native trees and shrubs as a food source for the bees in 2023. A step that ultimately led to the founding of Kafeala. As soon as our restored forests provide a sufficient collection base, we will settle new bee colonies from our own apiary there and produce forest honey. Due to the high demand for honey in Madagascar, it is still unclear whether this natural product will be sold directly on site or also in Switzerland.
