Restore Madagascar's Biodiverse Forests

Kafeala is a nature conservation project that restores indigenous forests in the central highlands on a long-term, self-sustaining basis

Forest Restoration
To make a big impact, we only plant trees and shrubs on land that legally belongs to our NGO.

Forest Protection
Rangers, the production of coffee and honey in the forests and other measures ensure the long-term conservation of the forests.

Empowerment of Village Communities
Fair workplaces with co-determination rights, awareness-raising campaigns and more - local people are actively involved.
The 7'593 km² Ankazobe District is located in the central highlands of Madagascar. Due to slash-and-burn clearances for fodder production as the main cause, only two forests remain in the entire district today. These two special reserves together cover only 0.24 % of the district area and are still inhabited by wild lemurs.
From degraded grassland to a biodiverse forest ecosystem
Bendambo will be the first restored forest in the entire Ankazobe District.

120 native plant species
From five plant species that are critically endangered and only exist in the Ankafobe Special Reserve, to threatened palm trees, precious pink or black woods and wild coffee (Kafeala) - nature in the Ankazobe District is magnificent!
